Matt's varied and rewarding playing experiences, in combination with his academic pursuits,
have made him an effective coach attuned to the needs of the whole player. Constantly seeking
new ideas and approaches, Matt is an avid student of every element of soccer. |
Playing four years of varsity soccer at Weymouth High School, Coach Freeman enjoyed many
successes before graduating in 1994, including a state title in 1991. In his senior year season
at WHS, he was voted All-Scholastic, All-League, and All-New England All-Star, having helped lead
the team to the state semifinals. Matt also ran indoor and outdoor track, earning state and New
England titles as part of 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams. His hard work and talent secured him a
scholarship to play soccer and study at Boston University. |

In his freshman year at BU, his Division I team was ranked #1 in the country. Matt's favorite
memory of his college playing experience was from that winning season when the team beat University
of Virginia, 3-2, in front of over 7,000 fans at UVA. His assist in that championship delivered the
game-deciding goal. The team's achievements continued through the remainder of his career playing
for BU, maintaining status as one of the top twenty teams in the country with Academic All-Conference
honors in the 1997-98 season. |
